Hi all, the noise I'm talking about is not a hum or his that you'll hear, it's self noise from the wire inside the casting loosing mechanical integrity over time and the steel end caps used at each end. I do not want steel in the signal path. When replacing a bunch of sand-cast resistors with a wire wound resistor in epoxy the noise floor is lowered. To exaggerate the difference I soldered 6 x 1ohm sand resistors in series and did the same with 6 Mills resistors, switching between the 2 via a DPST switch the damage the sand units cause is unmistakable to my ears. They will go in a compression driver/waveguide DIY speaker. Yes I'm looking for that last bit of sound. Try this for yourselves and you may find that you start looking for better quality. I don't use them in power supplies either.
