Unfortunately the view expressed above is short-sighted and presumptuous. You are falling into the trap of having had a bad experience by being burgled and are now projecting that bad experience onto all situations. I have bought many items sans remote and they were in very good condition and certainly not stolen. Some people are just careless and could not be bothered to locate the remote when they decide to sell. Some people allow their kids to play with the remote and pretend it is a phone. There can be a 101 reasons the remote is misplaced. I do have some items for which I have the original packaging and remote and I almost never use the remotes, they are however safely in a drawer where I can retrieve them if needed. I do understand the need to have the remote when it comes to certain items like AV receivers where certain functions may only be accessed via the remote or TVs where one needs to be able to change or tune channels from your seated position as well as adjust the volume at times. With stereo amplifiers, CD players and radio tuners etc, the remote can be convenient but, certainly not essential.
