I'm making a concerted effort to tame my inner music-collection-squirrel. It's so easy to buy new music, but as a I consider my vinyl & digital collection I ponder how much I return to? How much money have I burnt for that ephemeral dopamine hit?! A recent set of rules I've embraced to curtail wasteful-expenditure: 1) 80% of the album must have great tracks, or, 2) The 20% must be so good that they make up for the rest. Corollaries to this that I think I think are perhaps particularly applicable to gear purchases: 1) It's either 'Hell yes' or it's 'No'. (h/t Derek Sivers) 2) A Tim Ferriss rule: Rate on a scale of 1 - 10 and you're not allowed to select 7. 3) Wait a week before hitting that 'Purchase' button. Stream a few times - if it still speaks to you after this period it deserves to be in your collection. Neil
