Back to the matter on hand. If you do not make your creations your first priority and start looking at a exporting, most mentioned brands will stay cottage industries and fizzle into oblivion.

I do not believe they have had a relationship with PL Audio and Magellan as well previous to the show

On what is the above statement based?

We knew and had interacted with all exhibitors before the show.

As stated in another thread, we had to be careful about how we went about organising the show. Nothing like this has been done during a pandemic. As also stated before, we were contacted by a few people when they heard about the show. No one from Bentley did so. Had they, perhaps we could have accommodated them.
Perhaps they simply didn't want to exhibit. Or they didn't see enough value in a local show to spend the energy to contact us.

When we are able to expand the show we will include more people

Just before the show or long before the show? Have you sold any of there products? How many have been sold in the last year from each of them?

If you you were organising a show for the local manufacturers why not investegate all of them?

Sigh!!!!
Geco you certainly seem to be wanting to pick a fight where none exists.

If you had read the previous post you would have seen all our reasoning for doing things the way we did. We did not set out to offend anyone and if we offended you we apologise.

Not offended at all just calling it as i see it and responded to your question. You left out the largest speaker manufacturer in South africa. You included completely unknowns and you advertised as as if you representing the local manufacturers. Actually it is all to promote your own concern. I commend you for that. Well done. [emoji6]

Regardless of reasoning, excluding probably the biggest attempt at a serious local speaker manufacturer; yet include an amp I doubt has any real potential of long-term success (no offense but I believe I have solid reasons) is a head-scratcher.

Also, having only one speaker brand for a hi-fi show is a bit of an elephant in the socially-distanced room. No offense to Sonor, but they've been around for three-odd decades so I doubt they need further introduction while Bentley as a new brand could have really benefited from a launching pad like this.

Just my 2c, I haven't heard anything that was on display and neither am I in the market for any of it (including Bentley & Geco) so I'm unbiased. There's just a conspicuous air of politics/commercial interests irrespective of how it's spun.

I guess this won't be the first or last trade show that is marketed as being representative when there are some players missing. I appreciate that Joel had to start somewhere, under very difficult trading (and eventing) conditions.

I regret missing it, and I do hope that it will continue and grow from strength to strength.

I would imagine that many lessons have been learnt - and that even with some grumbles all will be welcome to exhibit at the next one.

Just an idea, FWIW: It might be good to set aside a session or a day for trade only. So that dealers themselves can come and listen, and talk shop (and deals) without having to deal with mutual clients. I know this forum is a passionate group... but I have found that many music fans and audiophiles (or people who are both :sh1tstirrer:) are not interested in this forum, so you want to reach the folks who reach them.

Some valid points being thrown into the 'melting pot' re the pioneering effort - I'm sure Joel and team were ready to have their feathers ruffled, and are making notes for the next offering.

Covid notwithstanding, I'm sure the next SMS (hopefully in Cape Town), will be a 'sound' improvement on this very worthwhile endeavour!
Hope I can make it there!

It was very surprising that Bentley didn't feature at the show, over the last 2 yrs Bentley have been the most vocal and in your face local product.

Sometimes the dealers really went overkill about them but they sure made there presence felt more than the other locals brands.

If I really think SA local , VA & Bentley are the first 2 that really stick out in my mind.

No one approached us or we would have gone, when i saw this and asked it was to late.

1+

But let's give it to Joel and his buddies, it was a streetwise and clever marketing angle from them. I guess the lines are now clearly drawn in the sand.

Come to think about it, they also circumvented the always eagle eyes of the mods of the forum that is always on the lookout for commercial members bending the rules. Joel got the mods and admin to let the show float in the General section and got it pinned up here as well under the banner of representing the local industry whilst it really aimed at something else.

Ah but now I see, Joel is a Super Veteran of the forum, not a commercial member ;)

I am not so unhappy about the outcome of the show. I got several requests and orders as well for Hana Cartridges (handmade in Japan and not local made).
So I m in fact truly grateful to my dear collegue, friend and even competitor Lance who used a Hana ML to demo his beautyful Revolve turntable.
I m not sure if Roy was using his Hana Cart as well....but it was good that more audiophiles than usual here had a chance to listen to some remarkable Carts from Hana. This is Ortofon land and while Hana in the world is seen as one of the Top Leaders in Cartridges - SA as usual is a little bit behind or too conversative to explore greatest value for the money....

Anyhow...I think Joel took initiative and made such show happening - and who ever did that will know - its not peanuts to organize such an event.
I also agree that the communication was not ideal or clear. It was a dealer show and not The SA Audio Show - period! Is it a trainsmash? No I think its maybe the start into something bigger and better - and maybe the first step into a real SA Audio Show.

Joel is a very fair, knowledgable friend and ex partner of mine. So I m proud to say (as an ex ;)) .....he is a great guy and for sure he had no bad intentions - but maybe next time the communication should be straight forward and very clear - this may include with who you WANT to work with who NOT.
Nobody would feel offended or excluded.

One is for sure - we are in need for more activities like this and I take my hat off towards Joel.

[member=793]Stefan[/member]......maybe you and I should organize such show as well ....together with our brands (maybe even cross-demo). We have great products....and why not taking Andy on board with his own Audio Note World. At the end a common understanding is the stronger bond than the tiny fact that we are competitors.
Under normal circumstances I would also mentioned Mr. G .... but maybe as a sign of solidarity, respect and salute we could sell his inventory on behalf of his family.

Only some positive thoughts in devastating days....

We were to have displayed however after consultation with Joel, it was advised that our headphone amps would not be advised by the venue "Hi
The final word from the casino is that they aren?t happy with headphone due to them being handed from person to person and put on heads.
We could possibly do a static display." All quite understandable . Glad it was a success. At that stage our monoblocks were not quite ready. Paul Lintott, Lint Audio
