Hi guys, Many thanks for all the replies. Something which I've been unable to determine thus far is whether any form of DSP processing is still applied when in stereo mode. According to Yamaha (and in the setup opts) one can force tone ctrls off and DSP off when an analogue source is selected (which I have set up like this), this is their so-called "direct mode" and is supposed to bypass all tone & DSP (which would then include YPAO parameters being off). (Which ties in with KenMasters's comments) RobertE, AFAIK the sub out is definitely disabled when in stereo, but I'll test again. Ampdog, correct, the tonal balance is very different when in so-called "pure direct" when compared to stereo. I cannot say about any volume differences, as I'm just switching the "pure direct" function on and off and due to the large diff. in sound, perceived volume diff. could be a bit subjective I also seem to have Balanced Audio (Yamaha importers) stumped on this one at this point. I'm all for separate stereo & HT setups, but IMO a modern HT receiver should still offer fair stereo performance. I still suspect some processing remains switched in?
