My 2c's on the source. Instead of getting a CD player get a Mede8er and a DAC Magic. The combination cant be beaten for value for money IMO. For someone starting out it gives you an instant jump to a relatively high level of sound quality without spending tens of thousands on the source. The sound quality from this duo really is very good for the money. IMO its a waste to even consider anything else unless you want REALLY high end quality but then be prepared to spend ten times more! The Mede8er will cost less than 3k with a decent harddrive and the DAC Magic can be bought in the UK for about 3k (just need to find someone who is coming from there to bring it with). Regarding the rest of the system, the 804's are very interesting, and I would have great difficulty turning them down if I was you - but then you are going to need much better amplification to do them justice. Forget about the NAD or any other AV receiver IMO! Try looking for a well regarded second hand amp with some grunt such as Cambridge Audio 840 or something similar. Ultimately one of the Valve Audio amps or Electrocompaniet would nice as well, but probably way out of the budget would imagine.
