The only cinema that really impressed me was in the States; a full blown THX cinema. The clarity of sound and more than that, the mid-bass impact was leagues better than any cinema I've been to here. The bass was just so much more concussive and full bodied and the dynamics were startling. I remember watching LOTR Fellowship of the Ring in Cavendish Square (and at the Waterfront) and the distortion levels ruined the experience for me, especially at Cavendish. No deep bass to speak of, the speakers reached their limits early, surround sound envelopment was -- sorry, there was no surround sound envelopment. ;D Of course the lights turning on at the most critical points in the film didn't help matters much either. I'll maintain that an entry level HT system between R10-15k set up correctly with some acoustic treatment can best some of the better cinemas out here in just about every area but one; mid-bass impact. The slam in the chest concussive force that you get in a movie is what some of the better cinemas excel at. The compromise is that there is little deep bass to speak of but then it's extremely difficult to pressurize the space of a commercial cinema. Regards,
