I recently got back into vinyl and with my growing collection of new and secondhand discs I have been lucky in that most of them are imports. I say lucky because for as long as I can remember there seemed to be a stigma attached to locally pressed records. I have to admit that some of my new 180g records are supremely quiet and sound fantastic, however the few SA records that I have don't sound terrible. Does anyone have any insight in how records were pressed locally? Imported stampers or made here, quality of vinyl, quality of pressing plants/machines or any other input that could put the local vs import issue into perspective?
