Had 3 accounts with Nedbank for 38 years. Was fine at the beginning, but the last 10 years not so good. After a huge bugger up that cost me R12k, found the counter clerk had transposed someone else's account number to a foreign remittance into my account, and she lied to try and get out of it. Nedbank management were not interested, and also tried to charge me a fee for putting the money back after 4 months. They only started to do something about this when I reported them for fraud since the lady at the counter shredded all the documentation to hide her mistake So changed to Capitec. Debit orders R 3,00, internet banking R 1,50 per transaction, debit card purchases free, incoming foreign funds free. R 4,50 monthly account fee. I do not have SMS alerts. In the 4 years I have had a Capitec acc instead of Nedbank, I have saved R 9600 in fees. I used my Capitec debit card overseas and fees were R 102,00 for the whole trip. Bidvest Bank would have been over R 1000 In the Sunday Times 23rd March there is an explanation why Capitec is SA's best consumer bank. Sure their approach is a bit parochial, but you do get good service, they don't bugger up and are generous with their fees to the customer
