When I was at the same crossroad a while ago, I went through the exercise of testing and comparing an integrated and pre / power combo of the same brand with very similar outputs on the same speakers. It was a no-brainer to go for the pre / power combo. The better damping factor in conjunction with the ample clean ac power that the power amp is fed from a separate socket and the separated circuits minimising interference made for a much cleaner, crisper sound with much better definition and dynamics with ample headroom. The next move was to add a duplicate sister power amp on the same pre amp and running four speakers, one set on each power amp, this stepped things up another notch. Next step could involve both to be bridged mono and to assign a channel to each. Chalk and cheese in my experience. I would recommended a pre / power combo over an integrated in many, many cases. But I'm sure there'll be exceptions to this, but I highly doubt if the op is in one of those exceptional situations...
