That particular power amp speaker combo might also just be a bad match for each other. Lots of comments about to much power making the speaker sound bad, not my experience certainly but lets not go down that path again. I have played around with multiple set ups on multiple systems at home and when I was selling AV and more often than not I have found its the right combo of amplification and speaker type that really makes the best of both and this comes with trial and error, then go pre power vs intergrated on the said combo and make up your mind on what you prefer. the general feeling typically is that the pre power set ups in a certain range or brand are typically the higher end units and therefore should produce better sound. They are also more specialized so all things being equal (no smoke and mirrors) then the power amp should be better in my humble opinion in a particular range/brand. I have an old NAD 30W rms per channel power amp that I run off my AV into the bar and it sounds sooooo much nicer than the 110W rms the AV amp puts into them if I run directly from the AV amp but if I put the 208 into them at 250W rms they completely transform into something much nicer. just my 2c use it dont use it
