The TV is indeed backed by Philips. I had a chat last week with the local Philips repair agency and they stated they had never had one of these in for repair yet. I also own a 55" Philips RCP TV, which did die on me. The set was some 6 years old and was working perfectly until the LOPT went phut. The RCP set is enormous, the TV repair shop sent their pickup van (Chara bakkie with high-roof canopy) to collect it... not in this lifetime! We had to remove my Hilux Canopy and transport it ourselves. Philips has centralised their workshop spares facility in Europe (or Hong Kong?) and they can supply any current part within a few days at most. This set was a disappointment in that it only lasted 6 years, but my bedroom Philips 74cm Monitor style set must now be about 25 years old and has never packed up. Picture quality is superb and I have only opened it once in order to blow any accumulated dust off the chassis (and to see what its innards look like!!). I am totally sold on Philips products and just wish their products were more readily available. -F_D
