Thanks LAV. Regards the storms in our area, there is a difference between sheet lightning and cloud-to-ground lightning. The former is harmless and does not require unplugging. The problem is of course deciding which it is, while you are watching your favourite TV programme. My last post I hoped it was sheet lightning but that proved not to be the case. Also try arguing with your wife while watching her favourite soapie, without implying it is your stuff and not "our" stuff! Not sure about you guys but I cannot readily access the back of my hi-fi to reach the plug. I have to move a lamp out the way, then one of my RTi A7's (which besides being heavy, damages the carpet with its spikes), before leaning in behind the AV rack to unplug. I don't see a way around this besides drilling a hole through the wall to run an extension through to the dining room, where I could then unplug as quickly as I wish. So with that said, I normally only unplug when we go away. During the day or while we are watching TV, there are occasionally dips and outages - THIS is what I want to protect against right now...because it kills the HD PVR. To date, I have not suffered a direct strike, only annual surges via our Telkom line. I also had a surge arrestor installed at the distribution board last year.
