Exactly. I had a cheap Sansui DVD here. Dead DAC IC. Everything else fine as clocks and data go, but none of those DAC chips in ZA or in the junkheap. I think it was an AK or a BB cheapie. Tedelex could help. Whole new PCB, and they had one in stock. R2500 for the PCB in a R299 (from the Corp) DVD player. Now if there was ever no option / a clear hint... Sure, one makes no killer profit when repairing that sort of thing, but it's nice to keep it out of the landfill and there are folk who would appreciate a cheap fix. I don't think it even qualifies as a complex product from a repair perspective. Class D could. I do lots of SMT repair. MSSOP and the like is a b!tch though. As things go below 805 one has to have great peace of mind and good solder wick. Having to guess values for X7R caps that shorted is a pain. No markings on those. OT: When I build stuff, I use as much SMT as possible. I hate drilling holes. Through hole components get used as a "top layer", for bridging things over other things below. But 1206 and SOIC is the usual thing then. PCBs from the kitchen don't like parts smaller than that.
