I've just received a "throw away" NAD CD player. It showed "No Disc" when trying to play. I opened it up and removed the transport part and one of the circuit boards with ribbon cables. Wiped everything clean and used a soft bud on the lens and reassembled. This time the motor spun up briefly. The disc looked wobbly while spinning. I removed the clamp and bridge part and saw that 2 of the 3 plastic lugs were broken off ... as per photo. After removing the steel disc I saw what looked like dry dust from a clogged Hoover. The dust stuck to the screwdriver, therefore it was magnetic. AHA !! The covering was rotten. I tamped it down with the back of a toothpick and replaced the steel cover disc. It now works !! It was obviously not clamping to the disc & motor below. Where can one buy magnetic filaments or powder or whatever they call it ? Or even the "donut" shaped part ? Sent from my telephone.
