O.T. as I sometimes go, but perhaps inetresting regarding dry joints. I experienced a growing number of these in a sensing module in my erstwhile Mitsub. Tredia Turbo. As this was a hopefully well controlled, mass produced spray solder technology product used in hundreds of modules, one might ask how?? The joints on a 40 x 60mm board were superficially like all mass-soldered work - some 70 of them. Then one by one strated showing up as dry joints (after heavily trying my patience - a computer-controlled car is no joy to try and fault-trace). A joint would look perfectly sound from the outside, only to show deterioration in the soldered area upon removal of said solder. It typically looked as if some oxide layer had crept in with time, between the solder and the p.c. copper track, strange as that may sound. I had so much trouble over several months that I eventually laid out a new board with new components - end of trouble. Has anybody experienced this? [Sorry Metalmilitia; thanks for allowing.]
