lanties if you have the ability to arrange your room as you please then I suggest you read this article by Steve Deckert first. http://www.decware.com/paper14.htm If you are able to arrange your room this way it should go a long way with regards to first reflections and help to some degree with peaks and nulls. After this you can then consider acoustic panels. Its up to you. Room lay out with Steve's suggestions should make things a lot simpler and cheaper. You MUST measure with the chair because the chair will change your frequency response. 1. "U" Therm 8 is an excellent product and good value for money. 2. Foam will never out perform rigid fiberglass with regards to NRC (Noise Reduction Co-efficient) 3.Rigid fiberglass panels are sold in 1200mm x 600mm sizes only. I do know that the factory makes the boards in 2440mm x 1220mm but they as yet refuse to sell them to me at this size. I have know idea why. 4.Wooden frames are okay but there are a few reasons why I use steel instead. In order to make a solid structure out of wood the timber will have to be quite thick, for me a minimum of 9mm. Inevitably the structure on its own will be heavy now add the weight of the panel and things start to get a bit to much especially if you're roof mounting. How will you mount the panel?
