[QUOTE="Davidvdw, post: 609601, member: 17663"] One of my biggest treasures is this collection of Mahler's first 7 symphonies on blu ray. I was lucky enough to snatch it for a bargain when the classical department at Century City look and listen was in it's death throes and hemorrhaging bargains as it went to the grave. It did make a brief attempt at reincarnation as a lego and plastic figurine stand but mercifully that died and was replaced by my daughter's favourite shhop - Cotton on. http://www.amazon.com/Abbado-Conducts-Mahler-Symphonies-Blu-ray/dp/B004P96WJ0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1442340688&sr=8-3&keywords=mahler+symphonies+blu+ray+abbado Even if you don't like classical music (in which case I believe that you actually do like classical music but you haven't yet realised it, as all musical roads eventually lead there)- sonically these discs are stunningly recorded. Well filmed too, by someone who clearly understands the music but image quality is not as fabulous as I've seen on other discs. As I say, as an experience of what one's system can do with classical music - the second movement of the first symphony for example - where a bank of 8 double bases hammers out the theme .... the horn solo from the 5th symphony to name but two highlights.
