There is another aspect to listening that has not been touched on here as yet, and that is the link between the approach to listening and how it is influenced by mood and/or energy-level. If you will accept a somewhat loose definition of three "listening approaches": 1) Active and involved listening to music with no distractions 2) Semi-active and less involved listening to music with some distractions 3) Passive and uninvolved listening while doing something else Depending on the type of "day" preceding a listening session, one's mood/energy-level will vary from "YES! MUSIC!! GIVE IT TO ME IN SPADES!" to "I NEED 15mg OF VALIUM ON A 5.25inch FORM FACTOR!" For me, Vinyl listening is reserved for 1) above - the extra involvement in the 'ceremony', the more frequent changes, etc CD, with its pop in the disk and play couch potato with the remote and less frequent changes makes it ideal for 2) above For option 3) there are two choices: one, radio such as Class fM; and two, digital playback from HDD - total couch spud time! So, apart from the "quantity" of time spent listening, there is also a "quality" aspect to the time spent listening that is usually linked to one's mood. And that is my theory and it is mine - er er um - My theory, which is mine, (rat-tat-tat-tat) 8) 8) 8)
