Yes, I just hinted at something similar under the thread "At last!!! " If a person (friend of mine) imported Merlin loudspeakers at a total expenditure of 50% of what it would have cost him to buy locally, then something is wrong. Also, we have heard the lame old tiding about the cost of "keeping the right spares" to justify what agents do. Sure, that could be true; then again, how many spares does he have to keep for an amplifier - resistors, capacitors, even transistors?? Don't tell me they keep those. Also, how often does the product break? Ergo, if they have to keep large quantities of spares, what does that say about their product? And the cost of repairs-under-guarantee that must be provided for?? - now that statement tells a story! Etc. - I am sure the story is stale. One would like to know the real inside tale. I cannot imagine that all are cheating/planning poorly to get rich. Some fold. But even with some inside contact I could not get anything meaningful in terms of financial figures. Either they are somehow honest or this is one of the better kept secrets around. Any positive ideas here? Yes, at least we DIY-ers can now-and-then build-and-sell some things cheaper than they can and still provide better specs. And HONEST ones!
