Thanks Shonver. This is off-topic, but hopefully I would be allowed to comment. As I read that, I cannot tell how sad it made me. I knew John well, as a long-time colleague at the CSIR and as a friend. Yes, he was a nice fellow. He respected everybody despite their stance, and I always felt better for having been in his company. After we went our separate ways in the 80s, he contacted me a few years ago and I replied; I am just ever so sad that I did not continue the relationship. I have heard of his pre-amp but do not know the full details. It would have been the best that he was capable of, and that says a lot - despite the fact that he occasionally asked me for guidance. Incidentally, he was also an expert on motor cars, and after I bought my first humble Opel Kadett, taught me from first principles most of what I subsequently used for my own benefit and that of others. I truly mourn his passing. John, wherever you are now, may you see my sadness at your passing on. We are the poorer for that. And, yes! You would now probably enjoy music in its full fidelity (not the slow tempi of Hans Schmidt-Isserstaed that we so often joked about!) Peace be to you, dear friend.
