Phew, that's a pain! I am on a similar mission re. the PC media centre. I purchased myself a Geforce 9500GT (passive cooling) so I can play full HD content. Today received a nice new shiny Samsung 2333 (23" widescreen Full HD monitor - 16x9 ratio) so it's all coming along nicely. The sound part is certainly a tricky part. My amp is a crappy one so I'm happy to leave the DAC to my creative X-Fi card and send analogue signal to the amp from the X-Fi. I have installed some nice codecs that let my GPU do all the decoding on full HD movies so very little strain on the CPU now which is excellent (especially as the CPU is really slow!). As for the whole DRM argument, I am completely against DRM. It's such rubbish! Why buy DRM MP3's off the webs If I can only use it on one device, where I can buy a CD and rip that to my Gaming PC, Ipod and media PC, and play the original CD in my car or CD Player. Also, I copy my original CD's for my car in case they get scratched or stolen I can make another copy from the original in my cupboard at home.
