Audioengineer. Why not spell out the scenario to Audiotweak? Tell him that regardless of his protection whereby OPPO will not sell/ship direct to SA, you have means of getting a machine and at X price you have calculated. All he can do is tell you to get knotted or perhaps he will come to the party. Nothing to loose, unless it has now become a thing of principles? You could send the same e mail to OPPO? Surely it helps them nought to be overpriced and sell niks in a market while those genuinely interested in the product end up elsewhere? Again, I am really not trying to defend or justify audiotweak's pricing, but considering OPPO sell factory direct, is it possible that there just is not the usual distributor/dealer discount? I just hate this sort of thing as subsequently generalisations get made and all distributors get tarred with the same brush.. I suspect there are a few things at play here: OPPO possibly do not give very large re seller discounts AT is a small company, bring in small shipments, this is one of their only low value items, shipping a USD200.00 DVD player costs the same as shipping a USD1000.00 one (assuming similar volumetric weight). If AT is trying to realise the same margin % on landed cost on these OPPO players then on say a Jolida CD player the shipping will be a large % of cost and the result is to high a price. I ultimately suspect that in the great scheme of things, OPPO and AT are not actually business models that can really work together.
