The Shure SRH840s were very much a FOTM on Head-Fi, but at least they are quite comfy, though they look a bit bulky. I tried those when Toms music store was having their clear out sale, from what I remember they are pretty good but the boosted bass response does make the midrange and treble feel a touched recessed. I ended up with a pair of Shure SE310 in-ear monitors which have a nicely detailed midrange, I guess they would equate more to the SRH440. I guess you could contact Toms if you want to audition those headphones. They are located in Sandton. I don't think I could recommended the HD555/HD595 based on build quality. I had the headband cracking issue with my HD595s, but Sennheiser SA appears to offer good local support (I received very quick feedback through their support service). Their sound signature however is quite comfy transitioning between speakers and headphones and they sound very good. They however don't give you quite the tight bass response a closed can would, emphasize the lower midrange a bit (so they sound too warm) and they are a touch screechy in the treble. Give me a shout if you would like to try out the HD595s.
