[QUOTE="Nidri, post: 881035, member: 1342"] High-end or otherwise, USB cables can also be adversely affected by static electricity. (A persistent issue in my house, for some reason.) The other day, audio started unexpectedly dropping out before suddenly just going mostly silent, with intermittent noise. I unplugged my DAC and removed it from my main system for testing at my desktop setup. I started by testing SPDIF (fine), Toslink (fine) and finally USB (fine too). Hmmm. Thought my main amp might be acting up, but it worked fine through the Phono input. Plugged the DAC back into the main system, unplugged and replugged the USB from the Mac Mini a few times, did the same on the DAC side, fired eveything up again and it's been playing without issue ever since. Only reasonable explanation I could come up with is static electricity build up in the USB sockets. HDMI sockets also appear to be effected by this - from time to time I have to disconnect and reconnect the DSTV/TV connection to get rid of an annoying, persistent static-induced inteference.
