The problem we had that with these hardy chickens is that they very soon refuse to sleep in a coop, overnight in trees and get caught by vermin.
We have been keeping hens on and off for years, live on edge of town. Always had indigenous chickens - Ovambo, Potchefstroom koekoek, Boschvelders - spelling correct, interesting story. Great pleasure, local chicken need no immunizations, very hardy, around 200 eggs per year, productive for many years. The problem we had that with these hardy chickens is that they very soon refuse to sleep in a coop, overnight in trees and get caught by vermin. Actually saw a caracal in our backyard one morning after hearing commotion, chicken once again caught. Mostly muskuljaatkat (genets?) were the culprets. So yes please keep chicken, but maybe tamer breed willing to sleep in coop. Cats was never a problem with our chickens, very aggressively chased away. Good luck
