Do we really need amplifiers with 100watts per channel?
Johan, if martin says he plays @ 1W most of the time, and I assume a speaker sensitivity of 96dB/W/m, then you will need 4W if your speaker sens is 90dB and 10W if speakers are 86dB to get the same spl. I'm using a 50W RMS chip amp for the last 7 years, and with my current speakers I never felt I needed more power. With my charios only 82db/W/m in larger rooms, I would definitely feel that 100W would be more apropriate. I played Disco for a couple of years using two RS monoblocks rated @ 150W RMS 8 ohm's, my speakers were rated 102db/W/m and never run out of power. I think you only need enough dynamic power and a good power supply. Imo, if you want low distortion and low S/N ratio, I don't think bridging is the best Idea. The chip you're talking about is rated 60W RMS/ch and 120W bridged for a single chip. So to get to 360W you will have to brige two chips, which are already bridged. This would just increase your distortion and degrade reliability. Maybe I'm missing the point, I don't know. cheers
