There’s a difference between design and manufacture, and not sure what was meant by the OP. China is so big it is mad to presume that there isn’t an entrepreneurially minded audiophile with engineering ability. So there are surely enough capable individuals to make some fantastic products. (As an example of maths and scale, there are enough capable individuals in South Africa to have some fantastic HiFi brands here.) So I think it boils down to what exactly the questions is: - Are there some reputable and high quality Chinese Brands, some even doing original work and design? - Has China as a country become credible or reputable as a place for hifi? - Is the majority of gear from China credible and reputable? Not sure I would be happy to answer the above at length. I feel the first would be a Yes for me (although most brands would be in the DAC, DAP and Headphone space). Second one feels like a No, but then there’s IAG, right? So Mission 770s Made in England are still owned by the Chinese company, so it’s messy. Third one is a clearer No just by the volume of generic and no-name stuff … the Amazon.com Electronics section. So I guess I neither obsess about the Made in China sticker. I’m not trying to avoid it, or look for it.
