This is so subjective a choice. I, for example had so much problems with the 2 VW's I had years back (problems ranged from mostly electrical to just finicky switches to rattles etc), I never consider it as an option when I'm in the market now, though other people swear by it and never have problems. My last 4 cars were all Volvo's, before that mostly Toyota, BMW etc, and one Ford (also my last due to persistent gearbox problems) and your best buy is a demo Volvo or second hand one - the new buyer always take a big knock on them, but they are very decent cars, and I never had a minute's problem with any of them. Still kind of 'old man's car' image though and not very exiting, but properly built, reliable and economical( unless you go for the T5, which tempts you always to press the pedal down, and then drinks a lot) ;D Still, I think there are no bad cars on the market in SA, so follow your heart and buy whatever makes your feet tap to the rhythm. It remains a money sucking necessity, whatever you buy....................
