I drew up a parts list and some costs associated. I am trying to do the parts for R6000 (cost) + R1000 gathering the kit + R1000 tuition = R8000 for the workshop. The idea is to offer excellent hardware transformer wise, cheap but reliable output tubes (you can upgrade later or request and pay extra) and good quality power supply capacitors (500V rating). I would go for option 5 if I were buying - best bang for buck ;) . As the supplier I cringe, because that is really a lot of stuff for R6000 (even at R8000 it is still a bargain). Sonically you'll have a punchier (big iron) sound with solid bass and clear tops (good copper + point to point wiring + octal tubes). There are only two caps in the signal path - so transparency is tops. I do not know what you can get for R8000 off the shelf together with local support and 1 year guarantee on components? This amplifier has been A/B with commercial amplifiers and won. It is the close to Class A (cathode bias) vibe and the dc coupled voltage amplifier/phase splitter that is such a good combination. NOTE: I need R6000 up front at booking, and the balance of R2000 can be paid on arrival at the workshop.
