It is wonderful to see some of my go-to reads popping up in the contributions. My immediate impulse was to list all the books of Kundera as it would be hard to select from his body of work, and the same probably is true of Camus. Folwes, for me, is also high on my favourite novelist list, and even though I am still struggling through Ulysses for the 3rd time, I will keep at it until it reads like the Sunday paper, as it is awesome. But let me not duck the question! 1) An Equal Music by Vikram Seth belongs here as it is a fascinating insight into the world of music, musicians and art; 2) One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Carcia Marquez; 3) Elizabeth Costello by J. M. Coetzee and 4) Flights by Olga Tokarczuk. And then, I will ad poetry - anything by Breyten Breitenbach or Pablo Neruda or even Cohen are for me very precious.
