Although I'm still a noob, what scares me is that after two days of intensive googling and reading forums like these I know more than the typical sale person! It is driving me crazy the amount of drivel being spewed out. >:( I managed to get hold of someone at an AV shop that sounded like he knows what he's doing and after chatting with him I now think the following be be sufficient - 1) up conversion to hdmi to use receiver for all peripherals e.g. playstation 2 2) upscaling is overrated, and when necessary can be done on the particular peripheral e.g. DVD player - therefore not needed 3) 3 hdmi inputs will have me covered for a while I'm even wondering if up conversion is necessary. Maybe I should just go for pass-through - could get the Onkyo 506 for approx. R5,000. Will mean one xtra set of cables for PS2, but that's ok. I'm confusing myself ...
