That Krell dock doesn't take the digital signal off the iPod. They use the analog signal, which means that you're limited by the quality of the DAC inside the iPod which unfortunately is not very good. I honestly don't know how they can ask so much for that ($1200) and still sleep at night. They cannot do anything to improve the sound quality of the analog output of the iPod, the conversion from digital to analog has already been done inside the iPod. Wadia has announced their new iPod dock at CES 2008 that pulls the digital signal off the iPod. See here: http://gizmodo.com/340518/itransport...ital-ipod-dock and also this audiocircle thread: http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/index.php?topic=49258.0. They are able to pull the digital signal off the iPod by special arrangement with Apple which unlocks that feature for their dock. The good news is that it will only be $350. In essence the Wadia iDock makes your iPod a high quality digital source (if you use lossless audio) which you can feed into the DAC of your choice. So far the reviews have been very positive. You can load your 160GB iPod with about 200 lossless albums and use that in the dock, giving you a nice audio server solution.
