I kind of agree with Rodney-Gold on this topic in the sense that it sounds like being a 3 is a bad thing. I studied electronics because I'm a gearslut. I love nice gear and if I had the money I would have buy second hand bargains like you won't believe just for the sake of trying different things. That puts me in category 3, only problem I don't have the money to support this urge. I also love to build and design stuff, cheap and expensive. I want to build the best speaker one can get, with money no abject, if only I had enough time and money. But I also want to proof that I can build a very good sounding HiFi with cheap components. I guess that puts me somewhere between cat 2 and 3? :-\ I also studied music when I was in school. There are 3 different bands coming over to my home often to practice. (BTW. I'm not part of the bands, my son is). I often sit and listen not only to the music, but also to the composition and skills of the musicians. I really love music, but even so I don't own enough Cd's or have enough knowledge about music to put me in category 1. To me it doesn't really matter if you're in category 1, 2, 3 or in all of them. As Rodney said, its a hobby, and if you get a kick out of buying and changing audio gear, so be it. If you're a true music lover, and the gear is just there to reproduce the sound, so be it. As long as you enjoy it.
