Nobody gives repeat business to a "dealer". Initial purchase perhaps yes - probably often via referral from a friend, the forum, FB friends etc. Repeat purchases are people buying from PEOPLE. That they trust, respect & have a relationship with. I've just done a quick mental calc of where I acquired my gear. Bought from dealers: AVR BDP Power amp Front floorstanders Centre Surrounds Stereo integrated CD Player Tuner Tape deck Floorstanders Bought from forum members/traders: TT Streamer Phono stage Headamp & DAC Have I had bad experience with dealers? Yes, been ripped off & lied to. Have I had bad experience with forum members/traders? Yes, as above. What does this show? Nothing except that there are scaly people in all walks of life, and sometimes we unwittingly fall victim to them. Do we need dealers? Absolutely yes. In the current format of large impersonal retail outlets in malls? Nope. In the format like Achim, HFX & Vaughan with multiple systems/listening/demo rooms in a more friendly & intimate environment? Yes. As always, YMMV.
