I have a standard apple doc (read charging cradle with av out) connected to my av processor. I use this for allowing guests to connect their ipods when they visit. I have comparison-tested this method of connection to: 1. My AppleTV connected via optical connection and 2. My Oppo player and 3. My Apple Airtunes. I did this because I was curious and didn't want to be annoyed by music quality that was not acceptable. I found there to be very little difference between these connection methods even though I was using the ipod onboard DAC when using it. I had to finetune thhe following to achieve this: 1. Disable all the eq options on the ipod, 2. Max the volume control on the ipod
