I have had very limited exposure to Martin Logan products at shows, but due to their specific design they must be exceptionally dependent on the room, their placement inside it, and your seating arrangements. From what Ch@pS described, both the room and the placement was far from optimal. This should explain his experience? A loudspeaker like Martin Logan needs special care with regard to acoustics. I think a huge responsibility lies with the dealer to help the customer with this. He should also resist selling such a product to someone who does not own a suitable space to accommodate it. Unsuccessful installations may create a negative image for the marque.
