Hi there, As you mostly listen to music I would start with a receiver and 2 speakers and build from there. I find that simulated surround sound is gimmicky and a waste of time (in my opinion.) I have had a number of Denon products over the years and do recommend them. The newer version of the x2300w was announced today, so you should be able to get a good deal on the x2300w. Monitor audio bronze are a good value speaker which sound good. I am a long time Paradigm supporter so I would suggest you give their Monitor 7's a listen before buying. Thereafter, I would add a sub and a centre channel when finances allow. The centre channel should match your main speakers. Subs don't have to be from the same brand. Finally, I would add surrounds. Just my 2c worth, hope it helps.
