I decided after stepping away from my system for while, to give it another listen before packing the Meridian pre away. At this moment I am glad I didn’t…. I recently ‘moved on’ my active Meridian DSP5500 Active speakers, (were unused stored in my garage), and accompanying Dolby Digital Surround processor and kept the above preamp. This pre has tons of features, including balance, bass, treble and phase, mono, etc controls. These features for stereo users are a boon. Dropping the bass by 0.5 opened up the sound, removed some excess bass (and bloom) on a couple of pieces of music. The mid and tops now explode, guitars, electric or classical, etc, pops. Music has picked up speed too, more PRAT suddenly, a pleasure to listen to. Phase changes are nuanced and subtle. A welcome reprieve. I’ll stick @Chingy mono blocks in again and fiddle with these controls and see where it takes me…. Used this music among others , specifically enjoyed the pacy ‘Black Magic’ on:
