Bad recordings vs. Audiophiles and their voodoo

There are indeed audiophile individuals who practice strange and weird rituals. I have been sickened by most of the odd beliefs of some of these people. I simply ask myself the following questions: What is needed to replay my favorite music? Can the equipment reproduce my favorite music fairly...

    High-Definition - Yes, or No?

To be or not to be? That is the question. What the use to upgrade to high definition television if you are half blind? My eyesight is not what it used to be when I was younger so I doubt if I will benefit from HD television. My reply is NO. Anybody can recommend a surgeon that can upgrade my...

You must be kidding me... can this be true??

I got rid of my clunker in 1994 soon after moving to digital audio.

    DStv phasing out 3:4 format?

I have noticed this too. I never could justify the cost of a plasma display seeing that the dstv channels do not display correctly on the widescreen format.

    Loudspeakers: Choices, choices, choices

I can cast my vote for the Vandersteen 1C loudspeakers with great confidence.

    AVSA 'Behind the scenes'

Taking lead from the 'AVSA History' I thought it would be interesting and informative if the members of AVSA could entertain us with some 'Behind the scene' details on how and where reviews are carried out. If I recall correctly a new office and/or sound room were constructed not too long ago?

    AVSA History

Getting back to the topic. It would be very interesting to know the reviewers points of view and references. References cant only be other esoteric audio systems but live events and maybe some education in the field of music.

    Repetitive TV

I gave it some thought and came up with a general complaint of sorts. The topic is Satellite TV. I have lost count of how many times I have seen repeats of certain Top Gear episodes. Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters was jolly fun but is now simply irritating. Do they [Mulitchoice] take us viewers...

My my. This very matter sees to stem from deeper [personal] matters. What is the average age of members on the forum?

Commercial vendors on AVF - Ancillary discussions

Cleansound, I have spent a considerable about of time reading through a vast collection of the threads and posts here and only now found it worth while to join in as this very matter appeals to me. What is currently happening here is a common social phenomenon. I was dumb struck when I first...

Commercial vendors on AVF - Ancillary discussions

Do you think it is fun for a person to be ridiculed in public? Immature behavior and personal attacks however isn?t funny. Healthy discussions are essential. Unfortunately there is an extremely delicate line between being funny and being sarcastic and/or sadistic. Sadly, sometimes humor gets abused.

Commercial vendors on AVF - Ancillary discussions

Now Sybil dear, how is that discussion of the amplifier different from that of the demagnetization device?  :P I never insinuated that you were a vendor but yes, I have read some of the threads you participated in. Looking at the number of posts you've made indicates that you are quite active...

    Commercial vendors on AVF

Hello mr Riaan Rankin. I am very glad to meet your acquaintance! My name is Graham Roberts from Elsburg and I work in Midrand. I would not classify myself as an obsessive-audio/video-technological-wizard but I do appreciate quality and passion. Being an avid reader of the AVSA magazine simply...

    Commercial vendors on AVF

If I may. Take some hints from other successful forums like this one [www.audiocircle.com]. I am not insinuating copying or mimicking any other forum but learn from them. Is this a valid excuse to NOT do things properly? Any work be it for fun or profit should be a persons pride and joy...

    Commercial vendors on AVF

Indeed we all do. Well said chap. Hello. I have been reading this forum with some eager enthusiasm since early last week and have noticed a few contradictions and perplexities. Really? So that post were unlike most others here (for example...
