You might look at my build and Hein's: http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,2558.0.html I followed a laminated mdf/ply route which worked ok.  Just be carefull with solid wood that it doesn't move around on you. Paul

    100 watt Tube Amplifier

I perhaps should add that 304 and 316 are slightly magnetic depending upon composition, heat treatment and degree of cold work. All info from columbus steel Pocket guide to stainless steel.

    100 watt Tube Amplifier

If you try to sell stainless at the scrap yard they generally test it with a magnet.  Unfortunately this is not a good test. 4 kinds of stainless: Martensitic  - magnetic Ferritic        - Magnetic Austenitic    - non-magnetic Duplex        - magnetic Fortunately austenitic covers 304 and...

Anyone had dealings with Turntable Basics in USA?

You have to reckon with the south african postal system.  My success rate on delivery is probably around 80%.  There is a very good reason that Amazon no longer ships to SA. I find the whole process of ordering from overseas takes most of the joy out of many purchases and projects [see...

    Dream Turntable

Although its balls-to- the- wall, my thoughts for the bearing would be a plain bronze bush and ground shaft [possibly plated].  Extremely accurate and probably noise free.  The most complicated is not always the best. Air bearings require an air source with noisy pump.  OK remotely situated but...

    What are you currently spinning

Its hard to pick the ultimate trio.  The problem is as Bob Dylan said when he turned up at a recording session  "there were about twenty musicians and that doesn't include the four drummers". I seem to remember that Redding and mitchell were just session guys picked for Hendrix first tour of...

    Record Cleaning

The reason I ask is that I follow a rough version of that described in the link given by family_dog. Not being such a meticulous guy, my approach is to make a brush as described and give a good scrub [following the grooves] with warm water and a touch of sunlight dishwasher, followed by a good...

    Help me choose a turntable

I would imagine the Indie requires the resonance of the box standard Dansette.  It would eliminate the stand problems and a shelf with Builder warehouse brackets would be great.
