    Three questions... Just got stax.

*Update* So, after many, many months of back and forth between myself and the technician the saga has been concluded (for now.). Result: The STAX can't be 100% repaired. It looks like one of the frames (the bit that holds the membrane) has a conduction issue that causes it to become warmer...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. I have to collect them from the repair guy soon, hopefully all is well then. @Scubadude One of the reasons the issue has taken so long to sort out is that the set was damaged in two different ways (but we didn't know), and that made...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Just a heads up... Be wary of iffy STAX, mine are STILL in for repairs. It's been like two years now.

Random thing: Listening to Open-back headphones and speakers at the same time.

So this is very random, and many must have had the same experience before, but have you ever tried listening to a song on open-back headphones and stereo speakers at the same time? At the moment my setup uses the same DAC/Headphone amp for both my speakers and my headphones with a level out and...

    Stax Headphone Pads Moving [Fix]

Elegant solution. Which glue solvent did you get? That STAX glue is notorious for being resistant to glue solvent as well.

    Stax SR009

Very jealous. My own SRS2170 has in been in for repairs since I got it last year. I really hope to have it soon, but even the not-quite-100% sound that I got from that system made me fall in love with the STAX unobtanium.

    Stax again....

Ah, very nice. I'm still waiting for my set to be repaired.

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Ha! I did start to make just such a comment but decided it might just be the Dunning-kruger effect talking. I downloaded a book on building electrostats. Will give it a peruse, and decide after that. Also: Concerning the spray treatment, I assume it would have to be done with the diaphragm...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Seems pretty simple. I'll try that if it's not just a loose wire. The more I read about STAX the less I understand why they're so expensive. At this stage it almost seems as if I would be able to rebuild the drivers without too much effort. The biggest challenge it would seem appears to be...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Thanks, I remember now that you mentioned this. You don't happen to have a link to a how-to?

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Well, it's still ongoing. After much further reading, consulting, A/B-ing (thanks to Scubadude), I've managed to confirm the problem is indeed in the headset (right side driver) itself. Based on the symptoms presented, it doesn't look like dust. It could be a bad connection in the driver (i.e. a...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Well, I just spent the last three hours: 1. Scouring and posting on forum threads. 2. Translating and deciphering a German engineer's blog. 3. Attempting to follow said blog's instructions on how to disassemble one of the speakers on my STAX headset. 4. Nearly dying of stress in the process...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

I would be very grateful for any help. So left the headset plugged out over-night (after touching the plug as is also recommended) and it does appear to be noticeably better this morning seems to balance out at about L85/R100. Going to leave it off until tomorrow to see if there's further...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

EDIT: After some more reading, it appears this problem is known in STAX. Apparently, according to the wisdom of reddit, it could be caused by stray static (or something like that) building up during shipping. The cure it seems is to leave the headset switched off for a few days. Ai. I'll give...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

UPDATE: Turns out I have a slight channel imbalance. Didn't notice it at first, just thought it was the stereo sound effect being emphasized by the headset, but now it's unmistakable. Still playing around with it and it appears to balance out at about L63-68/R100. I suspect it's the amp but...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Scubadude Definitly added the straw that broke the camel's back. If you ever see me being arrested on TV for robbing a bank, know it was probably a desperate attempt to fund an SR-009s or something, and that it's all Scubadude 's fault.

    Three questions... Just got stax.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. It's reassuring to hear from some more experienced people. I also suspect that my next move will be to get a better DAC, but I think I'll most likely try for a trade at some point. I don't really need a portable DAC/Amp at the moment, the 99 Classics are...

    Three questions... Just got stax.

I received my STAX SR-207 + SRM-252s today, courtesy of aquarat. Herewith a foto of my headphone system as is at the moment. The main setup is: USB from PC to Furutech ADL X1 Amp/DAC connected via Furutech iD35r to the SRM-252s which in turn drives the SR-207. You might also notice the Meze...
