    Budget friendly calibration microphone?

I'm looking around for a mic to use with software on my PC to measure & tweak the frequency response of my speakers. My room has an annoying boom that I guess I'm going to have to EQ out. The mic doesn't have to be super high end; just something with reasonably flat sensitivity. Ideally either...

    Speaker hiss - warranty claim?

I'm pretty new to the "proper speaker" world so I want to know where I stand on this. I bought a pair of Klipsch R-41PM powered speakers from Sound XPerience 3 months ago and they've been perfect up until now. I'm running them via USB on my office PC along with a Jamo S801 sub. They've...

Big peak in my sound - room resonance?

And some more reading to do. I'm gaining a whole new respect for listening rooms that sound really good.

Big peak in my sound - room resonance?

I actually tried a pair of (clean) socks in the ports recently on the advice on CheapAudioMan. They muted the bass far too much, but I'll give a lighter cotton wool a go. Thanks for the suggestion. I have a little 8" sub arriving next week so I'm going to have to start all over again with tuning...

Big peak in my sound - room resonance?

I have a pair of Klipsch R-41PM speakers hooked up to my PC in my office. They're great apart from an annoying boomy peak in the sound. Based on some simple tests with AudMe it appears to be at around 150Hz. Do you think this is room resonance? The room is a horror story for sound, being fairly...

    Carbonite has removed 2FA

Click the toggle switch at the top right (where AVforums "Search" is) and you can choose your background, as well as change a few other options that might make the forum work better for you. Scammers were hacking into user accounts with high iTrader ratings - it's really easy to scam someone...

New Bluetooth speaker with decent-sized components (and lots of promise)

R8100 seems pretty good when you look at alternatives from Sonos for example. Very nice.

Small vacuum tube integrated for desktop use

I agree with you in principle, but a R25k+ amp with R1600 speakers seems a little off. Can he build amps for cheaper? @asr001 aounds like you’re in a similar boat to me. The FR50s seem to be great value, although they won’t have much bass at all. Might want to consider a sub… Any reason you...

    Seeking advice on desktop speakers

Understood. I always knew they'd be limited; just difficult to ascertain how limited. They're so darn cheap that adding a small sub becomes an option. I like what the Zen DAC does to the sound; makes it all soft and warm, but yeah, always nice to have options. If I go them and they didn't work...

    Seeking advice on desktop speakers

@Drifter and @chrisc those FR50s look great and they're crazy cheap, but I'm concerned about what kind of low end I'd get out of them, if any. I'm not looking for room-rumbling bass but I want my speakers to have some meat to them without relying on too heavily on a sub. I just need an...

    Seeking advice on desktop speakers

I’m looking for a pair of powered speakers/monitors for my desktop, just for general all day music with some occasional gaming. They’ll be on my desk, maybe 6 inches from a wall; not sure if front or rear ported is the way to go. I’ll be feeding them from an IFi Zen DAC which does give a soft...

Speakers / Sound options for my "Home Office"

Edifier R1080BT if you can find R500 under the couch? Not sure what the wisdom of the forum has to say about their sound quality.

High quality cable damping devices to improve sound quality by SIX fold!

I mean this clears everything up, right? A more complex arrangement of molecules and atoms within a lattice structure is shown below for Jadeite (sodium aluminum silicate).

    Splitting/Switching my DAC output?

I have an ifi Zen DAC feeding a Little Dot MK2. I also have a cheapie set of Logitech powered speakers that take an RCA or 3.5mm input. I'd like to be able to conveniently switch the Zen's output between the Little Dot and the speakers, but I can't find a nice switching...thing to do the job. I...

SSDs or platter (standard) hard drives for music storage?

Just a quick note on SSD life expectancy. SSDs usually don't last as long as HDDs but the difference is getting smaller all the time. The type of flash memory an SSD uses will affect it life expectancy: SLC > MLC > TLC > QLC SLC will outlast QLC by a mile but you pay for the pleasure...

    Spotify wrap for the year

Not quite as much as you guys. What was interesting to me was the "most listened to" stuff. I listen to the same EDM playlist when I work out so those songs dominated to the individual listings, but the top artists list was a completely different story.

Black Friday Deals...Did anyone manage to get a good deal on anything worthwhile

Got some Shure SE215 IEMs from Toms for R1600. Normally R2400. Also picked up a Smeg espresso machine second hand for cheap; previous owner got a bean to cup machine on Black Friday for cheap so he was very kind with the price.

    Bluetooth IEM advice please

Thanks for the reply. I?m not too hung up on ultimate sound quality, considering this will be for use on the motorbike. Noise isolation and a good seal are the most important things. I figured with Shure?s background they would do it the best.

    Bluetooth IEM advice please

As a starting point, I?m looking at the Shure SE-215 BT2. I?m looking for something to wear inside a helmet, so it needs to be low profile and have good noise isolation. Noise cancelling is not needed, nor is an inline microphone or controls. Am I onto a good thing with those Shure IEMs? Any...
