Just an update w.r.t. question 2. Since posting the above i have added 20+kg of granite slabs to the equipment rack. I do like what I hear - dynamics and soundstage seems to be much improved.

I suspect the mistake you made was not to by-pass each new power supply caps. In my Ref150SE every power supply cap seems to be by passed. To my ears there is zero smearing.
