How many of you like the sound system in your car?

I had a car that was nice to listen to. Nothing big, nothing fancy. Hertz 12" subwoofer in a sealed compact enclosure, built for quality, and not volume. Hertz Dieci split system up front, with the stock speakers in the rear doors. They were left un-powered. It was powered by, I believe I...

What you paid for AV Items vs What you told your Wife/GF/So you paid for it ?

If your wife scares you, or you scare her, you're in an abusive relationship and that should not continue. Or, your priorities (or hers) are wrong.

What you paid for AV Items vs What you told your Wife/GF/So you paid for it ?

This. I tell my wife exactly what I spend on everything. She supports me, and I respect her too much to let her live in a delusion or a lie. If I can't afford it, I can't. If I can, I can, and she knows it, so she doesn't stop me from getting it either. Because that would make no sense.

    Supplying into grid in Jub

Prepaid's cost per unit is more expensive than postpaid.

    Biltong

It's strongly flavoured, quite rich and you need to be careful with the salt. It's a nice bite, but I wouldn't do a lot of it. I get tired of it really fast. Biltong place near us sells a bacon biltong bite.

Some methods to prevent your laptop (and desktop) from overheating

Resetting Windows is not the same as reinstalling, just to let you know. I'm someone who notoriously hates to reinstall my OS, so I've not done it in YEARS. The other day I started getting BSODs, to the point where I thought the problem is hardware. I tested my RAM sticks, SSD and even the...

    Orders on Raru

SAGamer forums is also down, apparently. Bummer, since Raru have abandoned it a long time ago and it was community run for a long time.

    Speaker Plinth - Carpenter

It would possibly work, yes, but Vanish Power O2 is very expensive so I wouldn't know if it actually works - I haven't tested it. I also don't know what else they throw in there. The important thing about Sodium Percarbonate, or oxygen bleach as it's also called, is that it's Stainless Steel...

    Speaker Plinth - Carpenter

It's sold in homebrew stores. It's sold under many names, such as SPC, PBW cleaner, etc. etc. It's also the same stuff used in Vanish Power O2 as an oxygen-based bleach to remove stains from clothes.

    Speaker Plinth - Carpenter

Yeah I don't usually do complete writeups to show how I did something, but I think this was a cool one. I could have done a lot more effort on this an gotten them super smooth on the edges and so on as well but I had to keep in mind that I have to not make a loss on this. Doing it again I...

    Speaker Plinth - Carpenter

After letting this paint dry, I took to the plinths with the black. I used rattlecans I had around the house, and I firmly believe if you do your homework a rattlecan can provide a very very professional finish. I did two layers of black, followed by a very light hand sanding with 360 grit...

    Speaker Plinth - Carpenter

I'll be posting this in two places - here and in my own thread. Here goes. Sorry, this is going to be a picture dump. So OP contacted me with a problem. He bought a set of Jamo 7.6 floorstanders from a guy from somewhere, and the guy messed them up. He used the speakers on the plinths, but...

    Fitting slightly larger tyres.

Yes I took that into consideration. I used to drive a very specific route and with the new tyres I lost almost a complete trip between fillings (around 64km). So every tank I lost around 64km. I also saw it going down to the coast. Old tyres, I could do a trip from Pretoria to Umkomaas area...

    Fitting slightly larger tyres.

I moved from 225/65/17 to 235/65/17 on my CR-V. Slightly larger and wider. Way higher fuel consumption and power took a knock (you lose torque). I'd go back to original next round. Keep in mind it's not only size you keep in mind, weight plays a huge role as well.

    Speaker mounts for Honda CR-V

I've used MDF in car doors for spacers quite a bit.  Never had issues.  Even really good sound shops I've seen uses MDF spacers.

    Speaker mounts for Honda CR-V

Thanks guys.  I've done my car speaker installs myself to date, and if I go this route I'll do it myself again.  I'm not sure if 3D printed parts would be strong enough either, so perhaps I should just cut a few spacers from a piece of MDF and get it over with.

    Speaker mounts for Honda CR-V

As I have it, the speakers are built into the spacers, which means either installing spacers or screwing into the bodywork, which I don't want to do.  The spacers they sell (which I mentioned above) are meant to provide a fitting between the 3-point connection used on the body of the door, and...

    Speaker mounts for Honda CR-V

Good morning guys, So I've had "upgraded" audio in my cars since forever.  However, with the CR-V I never did the install again, since I noticed the speakers are mounted in a weird mount thing on the door, and I can't find them in South Africa.  They're available from here though for cheap as...

    FLAC player for car.

Yeah I also had a car with a decent Kenwood head unit, a very nice amp (can't remember the brand now) but I remember the Hertz splits and sealed sub.  It wasn't strong, but it was absolutely crystal clear.  FLAC was also supported by the HU and it was noticeably better than 320kbps MP3s I...

    Yamaha amp repair, Pretoria

I got a call from Solvetech and I'm taking the amp to them, probably tomorrow.  They have a long waiting time - 2~3 weeks - just for the quote on repairs, but it's a free quote, so that helps.
