    Amazon quick delivery 📦

I want a drone delivery. That'll be cool. My experience with Amazon is that they are almost impossibly fast. South African Post Office really is $h1t. In their defence, if you ask the sender to display your cellphone number on the parcel, they will send you an SMS when your parcel is ready for...

Colon Cancer: It always someone else..

I had a screening at 38 and one polyp was removed. Fortunately, it was benign. I believe everyone over 40 should have a screening of the "ground floor" every 24 to 36 months. I hope and pray your friend recovers fully.

I understand from the media that cable theft is rife in Durban and environs.

Going to try and build a Non-oversampling DAC

Hmmm, you're making me think now. I'd prefer the 74 logic though. Easier to troubleshoot with a scope. Besides a Pi might be overkill. I recently received a Pi 3B+ as a gift from my brother and I must say it's surprisingly powerful and versatile.

    Unusual tubes

Way cool! Don't throw them away, throw them my way. They might be flip-flops i.e. RAM modules(double triode can make a flip-flop). Each tube stores one bit. The shielding would imply a critical application like radar or computing. Very interesting.

    FLLA from Telkom

Has anyone else here been forced to go to a wireless home phone? Telkom calls it Fixed Line Lookalike. Any problems? I had two wired phones and now both have to go wireless. Had to make some calls to Telkom because there's delays getting my SIMs and the desktop phones. I got the SIM for the one...

Going to try and build a Non-oversampling DAC

The PCM53/DAC700 was the world's first monolithic 16-bit DAC. Designed by Jimmy Naylor and TI / Burr-Brown data converter design team. Article here: https://ethw.org/Milestones:16-bit_Monolithic_DAC,_1981 I tried building a DAC with twin TDA1540 DACs and digital filter but ran into problems...

Beginner - TV does not sound good with Pioneer Rondo 2000. Is there a fix?

Read this article: BBC slammed AGAIN over sound quality https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/bbc-slammed-again-over-sound-10794776 The built-in speakers in modern TVs are terrible. So much so that viewers complained to the BBC that they cannot understand the dialogue in dramas or that the...

Going to try and build a Non-oversampling DAC

I'm planning to build a non-oversampling DAC with SPDIF interface. I'm going to need some glue logic, but it could be fun. Bought these babies on eBay. I've only seen more gold on my mother-in-law.

    The reality of Fibre Speeds

I always tell my students that nothing beats a cable. Ditch the wi-fi and use Ethernet straight from your Fibre router. The fibre can deliver the data sure, but the wi-fi might top out at 50Mbps or even less depending on how busy the airwaves are where you live. Can you switch to 5GHz instead...

The ARGUS all vacuum tube television

Owning a television in Britain in the 1930s must have been like owning the latest Apple iPhone or iMac today. Expensive and cool.

    Optical Pickup Cartridge

source ds-audio https://www.ds-audio-w.biz/optical-cartridge-basicprinciple/ I'm curious how it would sound. It would produce a more substantial output signal requiring less amplification, but it seems a bit gimmicky. Comments? Anybody here got a Japanese laser turntable?

You can now buy video encoded vinyl records

seriously, Video from a vinyl record. How cool is that! https://thevinylfactory.com/news/supersense-video-encoded-vinyl-records/ I've had some success recording 30 or 60 line video to ordinary cassette tape, with sound. Vision on L and sound on R channel using so-called Narrow Band TV...

    MNET Audio

When NICAM audio for television was introduced in South-Africa most people thought it was the first time digital sound was available from a TV. However, MNET broadcast digital sound right from the beginning in 1986. The MNET decoder would extract the sound data from the area occupied by the sync...
