Another good tip - I always do this, in order to keep using the iron at a non-pcb-destroying temperature.

I guess it is different strokes for different folk: I like Rattle and Hum a lot, and do not like Pop or Achtung Baby that much. But that is what is so great about music - we all have our own favourites and likes, and other people do not have to like the same stuff we do!

I am not clever enough to understand al this db stuff, but tonight I am listening to a DIY SE valve amp, 3W per channel, and the CD (line level) input is entering via a 50k pot (passive pre-amp) set to attenuate by about 25k. Plenty loud enough for me! Fairly, but not very, sensitive speakers...
