    Marantz 5008

    As so I.

    Advise on setup needed

Indeed. The Monitor Bronze Range with a Marantz/Onkyo/Integra would work well given your need for a compact system. You would probably have a few bucks left over for cabling

    Advise on setup needed

The B&W 685's as your front speakers together with HTM62 as centre will provide a great front stage. Add the ASW Sub and you should be fine. Both the Marantz 5008 and Onkyo 626 are going for R11 900 at Dion Wired. Very good prices. Else, you can get something similar on the classifieds. A...

Advise on speaker / amp upgrade

I got the Marantz 5008 driving B&W's. To be honest I am quite surprised at how easily they are being driven. And to me the Audyssey option makes the Marantz vs Yamaha choice an easy one.

Advise on speaker / amp upgrade

Enjoy! Did you get the Yamaha AVR to drive the 685's?

Does dionwired really offer these 2 AV`s at the cheapest price ?

I previously had the Onkyo NR609. Brilliant AVR as it was full of features and drove my Jamo S608 5.1 system extremely well. When deciding to upgrade speakers I decided to have a look at a few other AVR while I was in "upgrade mode". After much deliberation I went with the Marantz SR5008. Not...

Am I going insane? Underpowered AVR or untrained troglodyte ears?

Agreed in terms of having a budget, and knowing what your budget will allow you to purchase. My personal concern was finding out via the forums that one may need a more powerful AVR or amp to drive the speakers, which is why I decided to ask instead of presuming that I know better. I have...

Am I going insane? Underpowered AVR or untrained troglodyte ears?

Then what would your suggestion be as to speakers in the same price/spec range as the 683's and a proper AVR to run them? I would gladly listen to suggestions and change my purchase if that's what it takes. In short, if I am spending a ton of cash on a system, I would rather go for the best...

Am I going insane? Underpowered AVR or untrained troglodyte ears?

yes, which is why I am considering getting a receiver onto which I can use a power amp.

Am I going insane? Underpowered AVR or untrained troglodyte ears?

Thanks and noted. Well I am looking forward to the new speaker system. Apparently there are some refinements which make S2 quite worthwhile :)

Am I going insane? Underpowered AVR or untrained troglodyte ears?

Hi guys Read through this thread and have a few questions due to the fact that I just placed an order for the 683 Series 2, together with the 685's for surround sound. Bottom line is - will a Denon X3000 or Marantz 6008 run these efficiently? I don't want to spend the money I am only to find...

HDMI vs Optical output of DSTV

Exactly what he said. I have tried both options with DSTV and optical works just fine. However, HDMI cables are pretty cheap these days.

    ADSL Advice

Ah, one more thing. When I tried to cancel my uncapped account with Telkom ISP, they offered me a 20% discount in order for me to keep such. Use it, don't use it  :coffee:

    ADSL Advice

I went with the Telkom Uncapped 4Mb bundle some time last year, having had their capped 20Gb account for ages. In short, I was disappointed, particularly with streaming from youtube etc. I cancelled that after two months of trying to optimise settings etc, but to no avail. Went back to a capped...

    Onkyo product recall

I learned about the arcing quite by chance... when connecting HDMI's to my receiver. So now whenever the HDMI's need to be messed with - unplug power first.
