This became a contender for my favourite cover, and made me want to learn more about the metal genre. Exquisite.

This was a particularly hard listen when I first came across it during the pandemic. Intelligent. Poignant.

How better is Denafrips Pontus II?

Hi. Pontus II owner here. I’m running one alongside a Topping D50s. I’m not a DAC guy, and I’ve never heard the Ares II, so please take my comments with a pinch of salt. I’m smitten with the Pontus II. Everything from sound quality, to build quality, to pride of ownership - I have zero...

    Introductions Thread

Hi. For daily driving I toggle between a Sennheiser PX100 and Koss KPH40. When there is a need for “high-end”, I toggle between a Sennheiser HD600 and ZMF Auteur. In terms of sound quality, I reckon my pair of QC 35 II cans were in the same league as my HD600. Those Bose cans bowed down to no...

What was the last Film you watched?

Morbius. I did not enjoy it at all.

Welcome, @dave2 . Fellow newbie here. I too had a pair of Bose QC 35 II headphones. Such a delight sonically! I was amazed at just how close it's performance was to more 'audiophile' headphones like the HD600. Hope you enjoy your stay. :)

    Streamers and Digital EQ

I highly doubt that this is how it works. I imagine there are just too many approaches to EQ, for DAC manufacturers to be able to handle tags/messages like this consistently. I'd guess your presets are working as per Option 1. I too share your concern about streamers altering the original...

    Streamers and Digital EQ

Hi. To test if the EQ is being applied before or after the DAC, perhaps try using the WiiM’s optical out into another DAC, then fiddle with the EQ. If you hear a difference, then the EQ is likely applied digitally before the WiiM’s internal DAC. If you don’t hear a difference, then the EQ is...

    Seeking advice on desktop speakers

    Introductions Thread

Hi. I'm pretty new to the forum. I've been a head-fi audiophile since 1991 - starting with a Marantz CD player, Tandberg tape deck, and a pair of Sennheiser cans. Head-fi back then was VERY niche. My head-fi rig went through numerous revisions but finally settled down on a Topping DAC/AMP/PSU...

What is on your Santa Claus vintage wish list?

The Wadia 9 would be at the top of my vintage list to Santa Claus. :)

    Members' Kit pics

So happy to see Legato Link players still serving duty. I have such fond memories of these being paired with the Pioneer A-400 amp in the 90's, and sounding magnificent!

This is the height of coolness! Add a Koss KPH30 or KPH40 in Head-Fi Land and one would have to spend big money in Hi-Fi Land to compete sonically. We're living in amazing times to have such high-quality sound for so little money.

The best bargains, the most music for money products, opinions.

Hell Yeah!  :O0: This reminds me - Celestion, Epos and Acoustic Energy monitors of the same vintage are likely candidates as well.

Here?s a suggestion. The BlueSound Node Streamer. Everyone seems to have one, and everyone seems to swear by it. While there are no equivalents from the past, it currently seems to be as universally trusted, loved, and recommended as a bargain, as the NAD and Denon were.

Ok, this may be a bit of an obscure one. The Acoustic Research AR92 and AR91 speakers circa 1979. They sold for $325 and $425 respectively, so were by no means "high end" in terms of price. But even today I'm consistently shocked by how they scale. They demand a big room, a big amp, and demand...

May I add into the ring, the humble Koss KPH30iK at $29.99.  These spend more time getting wiggly air into my ears than any of my other air wigglers.
