    Mac Mini (Late 2014)

Where are you looking for SSDs? You can get a 1TB 2.5" SSD with SATAIII interface for R1895 on TakeALot - your quotes seem a bit high.

Can't speak to your specific use case - but switching to SSD will make a big difference to performance. Also consider the CPU cooling setup - perhaps replace the thermal paste (if applicable) - the unit might be throttling the CPU due to overheating.

The future of hifi in SA; is the industry running on empty or ?

Shipping via Aramex Global Shopper is R31000 for 200LB (100LB each), and R25000 if you are part of their FLEX program. I assume an importer can do even better with a bulk shipment. So if we work with a wholesale price of $3000 => R48000, and customs at 20% of that, R9600, and add a shipping...

Similarly - Klipsch Cornwall IV - Retail $6000 in USA (assembled in USA - so some, not all components are presumably made in China). That item retails for double the retail price in RSA (approx and will probably fluctuate with exchange rate) @ R189000. I guesstimate that I can land the retail...

The products walked to Austria? No import duties in Austria? No certification required in Europe ... OK.

    Power amp choices

And if you had to pick an amp/set-of-monoblocks? Or, maybe alternately - which strengths hit you with the different amps?

    Speaker recommendation questions

Listen to what you have - not to what you do not have. On a similar note (!), one of the cheapest upgrades in this hobby, to my mind, is to simply lower your expectations from unobtainium levels to more realistic ones.

    Review of Geco Audio Vanguard

Well-written review. The bit about the design of the amplifier is a great addition - definitely an idea that more publications should run with.

Invitation to forum members for Music night

It was a wonderful, very memorable evening - with generous hospitality and awesome sound. I have a new benchmark for home theatre, and I doubt I will see it surpassed soon.

    Speaker Hum/Vibration

So yes - I think we are looking at voice coil rub here. Looking at the woofer/driver picture - it clearly glued on off-centre. Pressing on it on the one side clearly leads to voice coil rub. How to fix? New speakers! Yay :-)

    Yes it does.

    Speaker Hum/Vibration

Hi, I have a set of speakers - of which one has a hum/vibration/disturbance/noise-on-the-line. To aid my repair effort - I took the speaker apart. Please excuse potential incorrect terminology. The driver: The crossover: The yellow-and-black wires go to the driver Where do I start...

    Problems with Showmax :(

Had issues with Chrome not working last Friday evening. Overall - I'd say the experience has been good. Give them some rope to sort out teething issues. Netflix much more sorted playback-wise.
